With makeup use among younger children becoming increasingly common, ampule conducted a survey titled “Survey on Elementary School Girls' Makeup and Skin Troubles” targeting 292 mothers of elementary school girls who regularly enjoy makeup. This aimed to uncover the reality of kids' makeup habits.
A preliminary screening survey conducted prior to this main survey revealed that approximately 40% (37.3%) of elementary school girls reported having a “makeup habit” (*). This highlights the significant number of elementary school girls who regularly enjoy wearing makeup. This main survey targeted the 292 mothers of these girls who reported their daughters “wear makeup daily,” focusing on their children's makeup habits and skin issues.
*Total of those who answered they wear makeup “5 or more times a week” (9.0%), “3-4 times a week” (7.6%), “1-2 times a week” (8.5%), and “several times a month” (12.2%)

Next, when asked whether they had a regular dermatologist after experiencing skin issues, 79.1% of respondents answered “yes.” This indicates that most children who experience skin problems have access to a medical facility they can consult.
On the other hand, when asked about the actual actions taken when skin problems occurred, the results were: “Avoided makeup” (55.2%), “Used over-the-counter medications or skincare products” (50.9%), “Used makeup remover or cleanser” (47.2%), “Visited a dermatologist” (43.6%), and “Didn't do anything in particular” (1.8%). Despite the high number of households with a regular doctor, only about 40% (43.6%) actually visited a dermatologist, revealing that many households rely on self-administered care.

Finally, when asked “What kind of information or support would be helpful regarding children's makeup and skin issues?”, the most common response was “Information on safe products to use” (49.3%), followed by “Easy-to-understand educational materials or courses for children” (43.5%), and “Knowledge from specialists (dermatologists or beauty experts)” (36.0%). This indicates that approximately 90% of mothers, excluding those who felt “it's not particularly necessary” (10.3%), desire proper knowledge and learning opportunities to safely enjoy makeup.
